The ANU College of Business and Economics runs ANU's MBA and specialist business master's programmes. GMAT is accepted but not always mandatory — ANU evaluates GMAT alongside work experience and academic transcripts rather than treating it as a hard cutoff.
Does ANU Require the GMAT?
| Programme | GMAT Requirement |
|---|---|
| ANU MBA | Recommended, not always mandatory — waivers available for strong work experience |
| Master of Finance / Master of Applied Finance | Sometimes requested for borderline academic profiles |
| Master of Business Analytics | Not typically required |
| Master of International Business | Not typically required |
ANU MBA — GMAT Benchmarks
| Metric | Score |
|---|---|
| Median GMAT (admitted class) | ~600–630 |
| Competitive GMAT | 650+ |
| GMAT waiver | Available for applicants with 8+ years of significant management experience |
ANU's MBA cohort is smaller and more executive-experience-weighted than the large full-time MBA programmes at US or UK schools — GMAT is one input among several rather than the primary screen.
GRE as an Alternative
ANU business programmes that accept GMAT generally also accept the GRE as an equivalent aptitude measure — useful if you're applying to both ANU and US business schools and prefer to sit a single test.
GMAT Is Separate From English Proficiency
A GMAT score does not satisfy ANU's English language requirement. International applicants still need IELTS or TOEFL:
| Requirement | ANU Policy |
|---|---|
| GMAT | Recommended for MBA, not always mandatory |
| IELTS | Required — see our ANU IELTS Requirements guide |
| TOEFL | Required — see our ANU TOEFL Requirements guide |
