GMAT vs. GRE at Stern
Stern accepts both with no stated preference. Stern's deep finance and banking recruiting pipeline (leveraging its Manhattan location) means many applicants targeting finance roles still favour GMAT for its stronger signal to those recruiters specifically.
GMAT Is Separate From English Proficiency
A GMAT score does not satisfy Stern's English language requirement. International applicants still need TOEFL or IELTS:
| Requirement | NYU Policy |
|---|---|
| GMAT | 720–735 median; 740–770 competitive for Indian applicants |
| TOEFL | Required — see our NYU TOEFL Requirements guide |
| IELTS | Required — see our NYU IELTS Requirements guide |
Prepare for TOEFL with Gabble — alongside your GMAT preparation, reach the competitive TOEFL score Stern expects from international applicants. Or prepare for IELTS.
