University Admissions and Application Guides

576 articles

Getting into a university abroad means understanding two things: what a specific institution asks for, and how to present yourself in the application. This section covers both.

On the first, you will find guides to individual universities and programmes, with their published entry requirements, English test scores, fees and, where the university releases one, acceptance rates. Many universities do not publish an acceptance rate at all, and these guides say so instead of quoting an estimate as fact.

On the second, there are guides to the documents that decide most applications: the statement of purpose, the personal statement and letters of recommendation. There are also explanations of how application systems work in different countries, such as UCAS in the UK, the Common App in the United States and uni-assist in Germany, along with advice on choosing where to apply and how to build a realistic list of universities.

Requirements and fees change every year, so use these guides to plan and always confirm the details on the university’s own admissions page before you apply.
